The Project
SafeFood4Children is a new project aimed at safeguarding the health of children and preventing choking on food in the age group 0 to 14 years.
Choking due to a foreign body is one of the leading causes of death from 0 to 3 years and remains relevant up to 14 years of age. Every year in Europe, 500 children die because of these incidents.
Our goal, through the 5 directed video to all those who prepare and administer the food to the children, is to reduce the risk of choking presented by potentially dangerous foods. Such accidents are not due to chance events and through adequate information it is possible to drastically reduce the number of deaths.
The MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), freely available on this site, was developed by Prochild together with the University of Padua and Garrahan Pediatric Hospital in Buenos Aires, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

SafeFood4Children is a new project aimed at protecting children's health and preventing food choking in children aged 0-14. It is realized by Prochild, the University of Padua and the Garrahan Hospital of Buenos Aires; it is a project co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Health Ministry.
Our goal
The project's objective is the protection of children's health and prevention of choking injuries due to food. This result can be achieved through the close interest of all the people who are in close contact with children and who are concerned with preparing and administering food.
How to prevent injuries
The main instrument chosen to reach the largest number of people around the world is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), a video course entirely free and available on this website
Projects of major importance in the Scientific and Technological Collaboration
Within the framework of Projects of major importance in the Scientific and Technological Collaboration, in 2011 started the collaboration behind the project “Construction of a joint risk-assessment system Italy-Argentina to control the risk of foreign body accidents in children.” The collaboration, in addition to allowing the achievement of important results, led to the creation of this prevention project.
